Would be funny if my Injuns bite 'em on the arse (figure we have a shot)
Haysi is normally big up front, the years when they advance out of the Region is when they are just so much bigger than everyone else. Could make it hard on Wise to overcome the size difference, (I have no clue if this is the case this year or not, I'm just going on past years).
Who exactly do you consider to be the "big dogs" of the LPD? To date the only current LPD team that Haysi hasn't had on their regular season schedule since 1990 is Appalachia. Had a really good and competitive series with Burton up until a year or two ago and I wish they were still playing. I would like to see Appy on the schedule but that is a long trip and it just makes more sense to play LPD teams like Clintwood, Pound, Kelly and Burton from a travel standpoint.
I like to see an occasional series with PV but usually PV doesn't like to play other division 2 schools that they will likely meet in the playoffs. Who are year in year out the most likely PV playoff opponents? Haysi or Honaker. PV may have called Haysi I don't know but I doubt it. Then again even when two teams want to play each other you still have to have a common date possible to make it a reality.
I hope BGJ can tell us a little of what to expect from the Tigers
IMHO they should be down next year after loseing several linemen and there QB
That being said I have been burned befor buy what I thought would be a "Down" Haysi club LOL
WHat they will have is probably the best FB in the reagion a BIG TE with soft hands and a good recever that can catch and assumeing that #7 moves to QB they will have one of there better atholets there as well as one of the top Kickers in the area
Go back and look Haysi's schedules for the most part they are weak, and there is no way to dispute that.
Who is there FB?
Haysi has played PV twice in the regular season in the past 20-25 years...in 90 they were blasted and in 91 they beat a weak PV team that had lost 17 starters. And, if you look at the playoff teams from the past 10-15 years, PV has regularly scheduled most of not all of 'em barring Haysi and Honaker. Now wonder why they would schedule nearly all of the regular playoff teams barring just 2 ? The reason the most likely opponents for PV in the playoffs is Haysi is because of that weakass district they play in. The winner of the Haysi-Honaker game has to get in. PV has always played GC...when has Haysi or Honaker barring the playoffs? Clintwood, Burton, and Appy are district games for PV. Who does Haysi play to compare? Nobody. The only reason they schedule Clintwood is because it is a rivalry. And Appy is closer to Haysi than PV is. If they are going to schedule Burton (which they haven't since Burton climbed to be one of the best teams in the LPD) why not drive 8 more miles to play Appy ? With the shuffling of the schedule in the LPD due to the loss of Coeburn and GC as district games, Haysi could have scheduled about anyone from the LPD this year and next at least. Haysi needs some stronger games cuz they have never beat a top notch LPD team. Yeah, they have won a few games vs the LPD in the playoffs...but they have never beat a team capable of appearing in a state finals game. It may hurt, but the truth's the truth.
How do you all think the LPD teams will do this year???
PV, Burton, Appy, and Clintwood will all be good..Kelly and Pound will be improved as well. Looks to be one of the better years top to bottom in the district.
What did Appy lose? I have been thinking they will be good, but also had some reservations about them. I know they have had some unfortunate losses also.
